In observance of Nutrition Month, the Provincial Government through the Provincial Health Office together with the Department of Health – Lanao del Norte initiates an oath taking ceremony to Municipal Nutrition Action Officers and to Barangay Nutrition Scholars on July 11, 2018 at Riana’s Catering Services in Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, Sagadan, Municipality of Tubod.

Eleven (11) MNAOs from the Municipalities of Sapad, Bacolod, Kauswagan, Maigo, Baroy, Tubod, Linamon, Kapatagan, Salvador and Lala, and Nineteen (19) Barangay Nutrition Scholars from Sapad, Kauswagan, Tubod, Kolambugan, Kapatagan, Matungao, Salvador, Lala, Maigo, Baroy, Bacolod, Magsaysay and Sultan Naga Dimaporo took their oath in helping to eradicate malnutrition in the province which was administered personally by Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo in the presence of Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Melania A. Untao and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, Honorable Harris U. Ali, Committee Chairman on Health.

Dr. Untao humbly thanked Governor Angging for the unwavering support extended to the programs of the Provincial Health Office in advocating nutrition programs of the National Nutrition Council with the help of the nutritionist and dietician from the Department of Health – Lanao del Norte. The Human Organization for Mindanao, a Non-Governmental Organization was acknowledged in the forum for their commitment in supporting the program.

The Head of PHO encouraged the concerned community leaders to practice environmental management, one way of preventing the spread of diseases in their respective areas. “With proper environmental management, spread of diseases can be prevented. Population growth, agent of diseases and the carrier of diseases all thrive in the environment. If we don’t take care of our surroundings, spread of diseases cannot be prevented that will contribute to an increase number of persons affected in a community. For instance, Open Defecation causes contamination to our food through flies or other insects. No matter how nutritious the food a person consumes, if he has parasites in his stomach due to contaminated food. That person will still be malnourished.”

Board Member Ali shared that in one of the seminars he has attended, a Governor successfully implemented the program in his province with the help of booklets, dedicated workers and the will of the political leaders through massive information campaign.

“If they can do this, why can’t we?” stated the Honorable Board Member. “With the support of our Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo and the very active Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Melania Untao there is no reason that we cannot eradicate malnutrition in our province,” added BM Ali.

The Provincial Chief Executive challenged the MNAOs especially the BNS to promote backyard farming in their areas. “This is my challenged to you, encouraged the people in your community to plant vegetables in their backyard. This is for their own benefit. If all the people in the community practiced backyard farming and are health conscious I am sure that all residents in the community are healthy.”

Governor Angging before ending her message, assures that the Provincial Government will always support the program in eradicating malnutrition as well as the campaign in achieving Zero Open Defecation in the entire Province of Lanao del Norte.

Aside from administering the oath taking ceremony, Governor Angging also led the distribution of Height Boards to the municipalities together with Honorable Board Member Harris U. Ali and Dr. Melania A. Untao and in the afternoon program was the finalization of Provincial Nutrition Action Plan for the year 2018 to 2021. PIO-LDN
