The Province of Lanao del Norte is home to a number of festivals to which the people freely practice. Every barangay and municipality regularly commemorates its festival or foundation day for their residents to celebrate the history of their ancestors, the community and their ways of life. A freedom to which the constituents were accustom to for years.

In Lanao del Norte, the culturally diverse inhabitants: Lumads, Muslims and Christians, respect and recognize each other’s differences in beliefs and traditions. Through these virtues it helped propel the progress and development of the province under the good governance of the Quibranza Dimaporo.

Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo in her drive to promote the tourism industry of the province has committed to support the municipal local government units to continuously celebrate festivals by collaborating with the Tourism Operations Division of the Provincial Governor’s Office and with the Department of Tourism-Region 10.

On June 29, 2018, the Provincial Chief Executive joins “Kalilang & Buntong Festival” during the celebration of the 52nd Araw ng Nunungan. This festival promotes the indigenous culture of the Maranaos of Lanao which is the highlight of the Municipality’s founding anniversary.

To celebrate the feast, residents of the 25 barangays prepare delicacies and native foods for the people to feast and install colourful buntings and flaglets on the streets adding spirit to the festivity. Aside from this day’s events, local Kulintang artists demonstrate the art of playing this unique instrument showcasing the rich culture of the Maranao people.

And two days after, July 1, Governor Angging celebrates “Sarimanok Festival” with the constituents of the Municipality of Kolambugan during the commemoration of its 82nd Founding Anniversary.

Sarimanok is a legendary bird of the Maranao people. It derives from the words “Sari” means cloth or garments of assorted colours, and “Manok” means chicken. And it is said to be a symbol of good fortune.

In Kolambugan, the Sarimanok Festival is a celebration of peace and unity amongst the Muslim and Christian inhabitants not only in the municipality but also to the entire Province of Lanao del Norte.

Governor Angging on both occasion, personally expressed her gratitude to the people for being proactive and supportive to the programs, projects and activities of the Municipal and Provincial Government. As well as showcasing the rich culture of the province and the unity of the people through celebration of festivals.

The Provincial Chief Executive also thanked the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police for keeping Lanao del Norte safe and secured. PIO-LDN
