The Tourism Operations Division under the Provincial Governor’s Office initiates “Lanao del Norte Cultural Festival Management Seminar” on June 7, 2018 at Mindanao Civic Center Hotel Function Hall. The seminar attended by 38 participants composed of School Choreographers and Municipal Tourism Officers in the province. The program is to raise cultural sensitivity and proper presentation of Sagayan Festival on July 3, one of the activities in the upcoming celebration of the 59th Araw ng Lanao del Norte.

Professor Christian Tan-Nery Aguado, Cultural Anthropologist and currently the head of Cultural Affairs in Iligan City and the curator of Iligan Ethnic Center was invited as resource speaker to enlighten the School Choreographers and Municipal Tourism Officers of Cultural Appropriateness and Symbolism of the Sagayan Festival.

Mr. Aguado is a retired professor and former Artist Director of MSU-IIT’s Kalimulan Dance Troupe, Kalimulan specializes in indigenous and folk dances of Mindanao. The troupe’s name Kalimulan is coined from Kalilang and Kaamulan to denote the communication and integration of the local Islamic and non-Islamic cultures.

The seminar aims to solve the excess use of prop materials, misuse of colors and musical instruments that will affect and defeat the essence of the Sagayan Festival. Mr. Aguado also discussed Lanao del Norte’s Tribal Dances and its influences to festivals, Costume Designs, Songs and Musical instruments of the Maranao people.

The Provincial Government is keen to maintain and preserve the Cultural identity of Lanao del Norte and the country in respect to its cultures and traditions. Under the guidance of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, the Tourism Operations Division actively promote and develop the Cultural sector by engaging with the right person/s, government and non-government organizations in accumulating ideas that will help improve the tourism aspect of the province.

Committee Chairman on Tourism, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, Honorable Abdul Harris U. Ali, strongly agrees with the Governor. The two District Representatives, 1st District Congressman Mohamad Khalid Quibranza Dimaporo and 2nd District Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo are working diligently in the House of Representatives to acquire more funds to finance infrastructural projects in partnership with the provincial government like the concreting of roads that leads to tourist attraction areas in the Province of Lanao del Norte, “The Land of Beauty and Bounty.” PIO-LDN
