Barangay Election in the Province of Lanao del Norte was a success due to the collaborative effort of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and the Commission on Elections. Atty. Joseph Hamilton Cuevas, Provincial Election Supervisor has said that there was no failure of the conduct of election and there was no violence committed related to the barangay election.
Days before the Barangay Election, on May 9, 2018, Atty. Renato A. Magbutay, COMELEC10 Regional Director chaired the Final Provincial Joint Security Command Conference together with Police Provincial Director, PSSupt. Leopoldo E. Cabanag, Col. Robert C. Dauz, Brigade Commander of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade and DILG Provincial Director Bruce A. Colao at Rianas II inside the Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, Sagadan, Municipality of Tubod.
In the meeting, Col. Dauz assured that the AFP is always committed to provide security to the people and assist the PNP and the COMELEC particularly in those areas that are identified as hotspots.
The turnover of 535 loose firearms by the municipalities on May 2, 2018 in the Headquarters of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade contributes to the peaceful conduct of the barangay election on May 14, 2018.
The genuine commitment of the Municipal Mayors in helping the AFP, PNP and DILG in decreasing the number of loose firearms through the marching orders of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was to show their sincerity in maintaining peace and order in the Province of Lanao del Norte and in the entire region.
Supt. Lemuel Gonda, PNP10 Spokesperson claimed that the Barangay Election in the entire region of Northern Mindanao is generally peaceful in spite of the present threats from terrorists groups and the NPAs.
