The presence of the Municipal Mayors showed their genuine commitment in supporting the appeal of Governor Angging to work closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to maintain peace and order in the province. These turned over of loose firearms from 18 municipalities to the AFP is an indication that the local chief executives of the province are serious in following the program of President Rodrigo R. Duterte in decreasing the number of loose firearms.
“I was surprise, happy, glad to see all these 535 firearms from 18 municipalities of Lanao del Norte. Congratulations to the Mayors, I know that you have worked hard in asking the Barangay Chairmen of your Municipalities to help convince their constituents and their families to surrender their loose firearms. Firearms are part of their culture, a status quo symbol. They use it to protect their families. I’m sure with a heavy heart they still obeyed to your request, and for that, I personally congratulate and thanked you,” the statement of Governor Angging during the program.
In addition, the Provincial Chief Executive as well expressed her appreciation to the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade for a job well done. “I would like to congratulate the Mechanized Brigade, the Magbalantay Brigade for this program. Let us work together for peace not only in Lanao del Norte but to the whole country, our beloved Philippines.”
After the presentation of loose firearms, a tree planting activity and unveiling of marker was also scheduled within the compound of the 2nd Mechanized Headquarter.
