The Regional Evaluators of Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at SAkuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) were impressed by the presentation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of its accomplishments particularly during its operation when Severe Tropical Storm Vinta struck the Province of Lanao del Norte last December 2017.
The evaluation began with PDRRMO Acting head Abeliza Manzano laying out all the consolidated documents of PDRRMO’s initiatives and efforts to the evaluators and the one that stood out is their operation during the Severe Tropical Storm Vinta that destroyed the province on December 23, 2017.
The evaluating team composed of different government offices from the region namely Office of the Civil Defense 10 represented by Jocephine M. Lumacang, Department of Interior and Local Government 10 represented by Isadora C. Cabildo and Department of Health 10 represented by James A. Dagoyo came to Lanao del Norte to assess the province of its planned actions and other preparations when man-made or natural calamity occurs.
Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo pro-actively supports all programs of PDRRMO in enhancing its capabilities to respond to any incident for the sole purpose of preservation of lives and properties. The good Governor commends all partner agencies from the national government as well as the non-governmental organizations that had provided assistance to the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte in helping the victims of the storm bringing back their lives to normalcy.
“Magpasalamat pud Ko sa naghatag ug supporta. I was telling them that this is an honor if we would get this Gawad KALASAG Award, it is not only sa akin sa kanila naman ito dahil sila ang nagtatrabaho. It is their honor, the credit will go to them not only to Abing but to her partners as well,” Governor Angging humbly stated during the assessment meeting held at the Governor’s Conference Room on April 26, 2018.
The theme of this year’s Gawad KALASAG: “An Empowered and Disaster Resilient Communities Governed Proactively, to Achieve a Safe and Peaceful Environment Towards Sustainable Development.”
The PDRRMO of Lanao del Norte closely work with the Regional Office of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of the Office of Civil Defense to better improve its roles and functions by going through series of trainings and seminars facilitated by qualified instructors of NDRRMC.
The leadership of the Quibranza-Dimaporo gives utmost priority in the preservation of life and property as well as the promotion of the general welfare of the constituents. Thus, the Provincial Government and the two Congressional Districts works closely behind to strengthen cooperation, collaboration and coordination with other agencies of the national government and non-governmental organization for the good of the people of the Province of Lanao del Norte, “The Land of Beauty and Bounty.” PIO-LDN
