The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office commenced the celebration of Women’s Month with the theme, “Make Change Work for Women” through simultaneous coastal cleanup from the Municipality of Lala to Linamon last March 5 and in observance of International Women’s Day, March 8, a Mangrove Planting along with the Kalipunan ng mga Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) and the Philippine National Police were conducted in Barangay Pacita, Lala.

For years the National Women’s Month has been regularly observed in the Province of Lanao del Norte through active participation of all women’s organization on the projects, programs and activities initiated by the Municipal and Provincial Government which empowers the sector, upholds their rights and recognizes the role of women in nation-building.

Mayor Alan J. Lim of Lala Municipality during the Mangrove Planting in Barangay Pacita believes that women in Lanao del Norte are empowered as the two highest government position in the province are held by Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo and Vice Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay.

“Your power is given to you not because of the situation but because of empowerment of the women is very active. Ang atong mga opisyales sa lalawigan Gobernador ug Bise Gobernador puros babaye,” Mayor Lim’s message addressing all women present in the activity and encouraged them to make the two provincial leaders as inspiration and continue their efforts in creating positive changes in the society.

Provincial Vice Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay speaks on behalf of Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo on the importance of taking care of the environment, the rights of women and the role of women in nation-building. The Vice Governor as well shared the history of Women’s Month which captivated the attention of the audience and made the women realize the importance of celebrating the event.

Before closing the activity Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, Honourable Grecille Matalines highlighted a key important fact “Kung atong lantawon ang atong Mother Earth wala nag kinahanglan nato pero kita maoy nangina-hanglan sa Mother Earth.” The statement creates consciousness in the minds of the participants of how essential a healthy environment is to all living creatures.
