The Department of Health in partnership with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Health Office initiates the “Go4Health” campaign to students of Lanao Norte National Comprehensive High School and the Santo Niño Academy of Baroy, Incorporated. The activity was held at the LNNCHS Grandstand on February 9, 2017.

According to the DOH, Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder are the cause of death to more than half of the Filipino or 54%, of these, 30% to 32% are under 60 years old, the goal of this program is to raise awareness to the youth and promote healthy living as early and as young as possible. These students will be considered Adolescent Health Advocates which promised to share the knowledge of the Go4Health program.

In the activity, Dr. Sulpicia Abamonga and Nur Aian Caridad, both Health Educator from the Department of Health Region X, discussed the aims and goals of the Go4Health campaign. The keyword in this program is “go” since it underlines the importance of leading active lifestyles. In this campaign of DOH, it introduces to students the movement which is divided into 4 parts: “go smoke-free,” “go sustansya,” “go sigla” and “go slow tagay.”

The DOH’s goal is to make this healthy lifestyle movement effective in the entire country. The program, “Pilipinas Go4Health” encourages young Filipinos not to indulge in activities that could harm the body, like smoking, and taking in so much alcohol and other habits which can cause cardiovascular disease, and affects the regular functions of the lungs and liver that eventually brings complications to the system.

Students who actively participated during the Question and Answer portion of the program were given tumblers and umbrellas courtesy of DOH.
