The Province of Lanao del Norte is bracing for another possible tropical depression looming 545 kilometers east of Surigao City. According to PAG-ASA in their Public Weather Forecast Issued at 4:00 AM, January 1, 2018, the low pressure area is expected to develop into a tropical depression today (January 1, 2018) and will be named “Agaton”. If made into a tropical depression, TD Agaton will make its landfall over Eastern Visayas-Eastern Mindanao this afternoon or tomorrow early morning (1-2 January).
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Lanao del Norte is constantly monitoring the weather system in the province. Mindanao region particularly Northern Mindanao will expect to experience moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flash floods and landslides same with the regions of Bicol and Visayas.
Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo remains watchful of this weather system over the Province of Lanao del Norte. Areas identified by the PDRRMO-LDN that are prone to flash floods and landslides has been regularly monitored and if deems necessary it will implement force evacuation to save lives and properties.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of the Municipalities of Lanao del Norte are in continuous coordination with the PDRRMO by giving real update of the situations on the ground through the use of handheld radios or cellular phones and other means of communications.
Though natural calamities could never be avoided what the Provincial Government can do is to exert more efforts in order to prevent loss of life and damage to properties, this is what Provincial Governor Angging stressed to the members of the risk reduction council.
The rehabilitation and rebuilding of the public infrastructures are on progress as what President Duterte promised during his visit last December 27, 2017 at the function hall of Mindanao Civic Center hotel in the Municipality of Tubod.
Since TS Vinta left the province devastated, Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, 2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo and 1st District Representative, Congressman Mohamad Khalid Quibranza Dimaporo along with the Executive Assistant to the Office of the Governor, Ms. Sittie Aminah Quibranza Dimaporo continuously provide comfort and hope to the families taking shelter in the evacuation centers affected by the storm.
