Tubod, Lanao del Norte – On his fourth visit to this progressive province, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso Alcala led the turn-over of several farm equipment, farm inputs as well as materials for fish cages amounting to more than P174-million pesos.
The turn-over ceremony was attended by more than 5,000 farmers and fisherfolks from the 22 towns of Lanao del Norte.
“We are very thankful to the administration of President NoyNoy Aquino and the leadership of Secretary Alcala for their continued support to the agriculture sector of Lanao del Norte. We have seen tremendous growth and increasing harvest yields because of the assistance we received from national government”, expressed Kapatagan farmer John Mangcao.
The turn-over ceremony was held during the Farmers and Fisherfolks Forum on February 15, 2016 at MCC gym, Brgy. Sagadan, Tubod town, this province.
Lanao del Norte received P27-million worth of projects under the PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) projects, P1.7-million worth of fishing equipments from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), P40-million worth of projects under the Bottom-Up-Budgeting, and P76-million worth of farm-to-market roads projects.
Secretary Alcala also committed to immediately approve the LGU-requested FMR projects worth P10-million pesos aimed at helping farmers transport their products to the markets and other trading areas.
Among the farm assistance given to local farmers were 2,000 packets of assorted vegetable seeds, 1,200 fruit-tree seedlings, 1,000 bags of certified seeds, 1,000 bags of corn seeds, 3 units of thresher, 3 units of power tillers, 1 unit of four-wheeler tractor, and 6 units of mechanical sheller.
DA also distributed livestock animals including carabaos, cattles, piglets, and sheeps.
Other assistance given to local fishermen include 5 units of marine engine (5.5 horsepower), 15 sets bottom set gill nets, 10 sets of seaweed farm implements and additional 5 units of fibre glass boats.

You have shown how much you value the farmers of Lanao del Norte and with every visit that you make here in the province you never failed to bring the assistance of government to our local farmers and fishermen here”, said 1st District Congresswoman Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo.
This fast-rising province has recorded 139% rice self-sufficiently because of the efforts of Lanao del Norte farmers.
Also on-hand to witnessed the ceremony were Vice-Governor Cristy Atay, DA-10 Regional Director Lealyn Ramos, DA-10 Asst. Regional Director Constancio Maghanoy, Jr. and several coastal town mayors. VNL/PIO-LDN
