Cebu City, Cebu – The Lanao del Norte contingent who is now on its eight straight appearance in the biggest cultural festival in the country continues to show their superb routine execution and stage brilliance which made them one of the crowd favorites in the annual Sinulog Festival.
Performing a Maranao war dance-inspired routine, this out-of-town group popularly known also as “Land of Beauty and Bounty†has seamlessly merged together “Darangen”, an epic Maranao story, and the story of Miraculous Sto. Niño the patron saint of Cebu City.
“We took the basic elements of the Darangen especially its storyline and merge it with the story of Sto. Niño who is our infinite source of peace and love. Through the intervention of key characters like Bai-A-Labi and with the guidance and blessing of Sr. Sto. Niño lasting peace was finally achieved in the end”, explained Sagayan Consultant Melvin Pascubillo.
The contingent is also assisted by Maximar Custodio and Emerito Custodio who are tapped as artistic consultants. The Custodio brothers are providing the “Land of Beauty and Bounty” dancers with their expertise on how to deliver a flawless and crisp performance.
Dancers of the contingent are composed of public school students from Bansarvil National High School of the coastal town of Kapatagan.
The chief choreographer of the “Land of Beauty and Bounty” contingent is Mark Eric Debalucos.
Lanao del Norte lead dancer Diana Therese Mejorada is also taking part in the annual Search for Sinulog Festival Queen. On January 14, 2016, Mejorada was one of 11 lead dancers who participated in the Festival Queen Costume and Runway Competition held at the Right Wing of SM-Cebu.
Lanao del Norte is assigned as the first out-of-town group in the carousel of contingents during the highly anticipated Street Dancing competition on January 18, 2016. The group is set to participate again in the highly-competitive Free Interpretation category of the Festival.
The “Land of Beauty and Bounty” will be led by Provincial Governor Khalid Dimaporo together with Vice-Governor Cristy Atay and members of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan. VNL/PIO-LDN
