In connection with the celebration of the 58thAraw ng Lanao del Norte, the Department of Information Communications and Technology (DICT)-Mindanao Cluster 2 launched the Tech4ED program with the opening of its first Provincial Training Center located in Tubod, Lanao del Norte. 2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah “Bobby” Dimakuta Dimaporo graced the occasion before a training course in virtual assistance begun led by Fabio Tongson of the Provincial Information Communications Council for the promotion of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in the province.
The event started at 9:00 am on June 30, 2017, Engr. Joel Aruelo of DICT Region X presented the platform of Tech4ED. Tech4ED stands for Technology for Education, to gain Employment, train Entrepreneurs towards Economic Development. It is a project of the DOST-ICT Office that aims to harness ICT to enable, empower and transform society creating an inclusive, integrated and equitable countryside, through providing opportunities for employment and empowering entrepreneurs. Its mission is simple– To harness the power of ICT in society towards creating a progressive countryside. In addition, the project also aims to help residents of the province increase the chance of getting hired for a job by undergoing skills trainings or enhancement like this virtual assistance course. Local entrepreneurs can also benefit of this program by partnering with the DICT to promote their businesses on-line, and through these training course residents of Lanao del Norte will be as competitive as the other cities or provinces.
In this project marginalized sectors are given access to digital opportunities, Tech4ED will now make it possible for hundreds and thousands of people to start businesses, get education, gain employment and take their first steps towards improving their families well-being, through a single ICT portal in a single center. To make this happen, Tech4ED has six segments; 1.eEduSkills: Enabling education seekers to gain a High School Diploma through informal education; 2.eAssist: Providing digital and employment opportunities to vulnerable groups and marginalized communities, 3.eAssess: Providing students with the industry partnerships that will provide them evaluations for job-readiness, 4.mAgri:Empowering farmers, cooperatives, agribusiness, and food processors by helping them obtain real time information price in the market, 5.mMarketplace: Enable new competitors in the market specifically from rural communities, and 6.eGovServ: Providing citizens with the necessary government services and information.
DICT Engr. Eugene Raposala III said that the services under Tech4ED offers great convenience to the people like for instance the eGovServ, application for NBI clearance will be less hassle and more convenient. If an individual is in need of government documents he or she can obtain those documents by just going to the nearest Tech4ED Center. eGovServ is used for government transactions such as applications for driver’s license, birth certificate and clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); eAssist, its purpose is to improve digital and financial literacy; and eEduSkills are for learning on demand that includes the Alternative Learning System and courses under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
On the same occasion, virtual assistance training course was conducted to prepare trainees for a BPO job. Virtual Assistant or VA, generally self-employed and provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients remotely from a home office. Most foreign clients prefer Filipinos as their virtual assistant for the fact that Filipinos are fast learner, reliable and can understand and speak the English language, with this no language barrier between the clients and the Filipino VAs.
2nd District Congressman Abdullah “Bobby” Dimakuta Dimaporo is glad that the province of Lanao del Norte has given the opportunity to have a Tech4ED Center for the people to have a chance of improving their lives for the better. The good Congressman is also positive that virtual assistance training course will help create opportunities for employment especially in BPO industry and with the increase of employed residents the local economy of the province of Lanao del Norte will also increase.
