Mount Torong-Torong, Lanao del Norte — The visit of the 10 of Ms. Earth candidates to this province will further promote the local tourism industry, even as it is perceived to boost peace and security in the area.

The candidates were here for two days to immerse themselves in the Filipino culture and see and experience the country’s beauty.

The Miss Earth candidates who visited Lanao del Norte were Maja Ana Strnad of Slovenia; Janelle Nicholas, New Zealand; Tatiana Ovcinicova, Moldova; Rashini Khati, Nepal; Carole Kahwagi, Lebanon; Denice Frigo, Italy; Maria Rosta, Cyprus; Ambereen Yasmine, Mauritius; Dimanthi Edirirathne and Natali Rantisi of Palestine.

Lanao del Norte Gov. Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo said the visit of the Ms. Earth 2016 beauties coincides with the thrust of the province which packaged itself as “The Land of Bounty and Beauty.”

“We are honored by Ms. Earth 2016 candidates who took the time out to visit us. I hope that this is just the start of putting Lanao del Norte on the map as a prime tourist destination,” Dimaporo said.

She said the visit will help Lanao del Norte shed off the tag of being a conflict-ridden area, because of incidents of fighting in the past.

The province, she added, has many tourist spots that it can be proud of.

During their two-day stay here, the candidates dropped by some of the province’s interesting sites such as Tinago Falls and helped local government officials plant trees in Mt. Torong-Torong.

The ladies also joined the coastal clean-up in the town of Sultan Naga Dimaporo.

Other Miss Earth 2016 candidates visited Davao City, where the coronation will take place, and Iligan, among other areas in Mindanao.

Dimaporo said Lanao del Norte is aiming to be a regular venue of PBA games in Mindanao.
